Community Environment European Legislation Waste
Encyclopaedic Dictionary of European Community Law by Akos G. Toth, This is the second volume of the Oxford Encyclopaedia of European Community Law, covering the law of the internal market (the first volume covered the law relating to the community institutions). The book covers those areas of Community law which are relevant to the creation and functioning of the internal market, such as the four freedoms, i.e. the free movement of goods, persons, services and capital, including the right of establishment; customs law; company law; intellectual property rights; sex equality law; social security law; public procurement; tax law; and related areas (competition law and policy will be covered in the third volume). It contains definitions and explanations of the most important terms and concepts used in EC and EU law, based on the Treaties, secondary legislation and, above all, on the case-law of the European Court of Justice. The book has been prepared by recognized experts in the field of European law.
Communities and the Environment: Ethnicity, Gender, and the State in Community-Based Conservation by Arun Agrawal, X For years environmentalists thought natural resources could be best protected by national legislation. But due to the poor outcomes resulting from this top-down policy, professionals today look to local communities to take real strides in conservation efforts. According to a recent survey, more than fifty countries report that they pursue partnerships with local communities in an effort to protect their forests. Despite the recent popularity of this local initiative approach, the concept of community rarely receives the attention it should get from those concerned with resource management. The few studies that are available tend to idealize all actions at the local level. This balanced volume redresses the situation, demonstrating both the promise and the potential dangers of community action. Although the contributors advocate community-based conservation, they examine the record with a critical eye. They pay attention to the concrete political contexts in which communities emerge and operate. Understanding the nature of community reQuires understanding the internal politics of local regions and their relationship to external forces and actors. Especially critical are issues related to ethnicity, gender, and the state.
European Union legislative procedure - The European Union legislative procedure describes the way the European Union creates and enacts legislation across the community. Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive - WEEE is the European Community directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment which, together with the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, became European Law in February 2003, setting collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods. European Community - The European Community (EC), most important of three European Communities, was originally founded on March 25, 1957 by the signing of the Treaty of Rome under the name of European Economic Community. The 'Economic' was removed from its name by the Maastricht treaty in 1992, which at the same time effectively made the European Community the first of three pillars of the European Union, called the Community (or Communities) Pillar. Codecision procedure - The codecision procedure is the main legislative procedure by which law can be adopted in the European Community, the first of the three pillars of the European Union. The codecision procedure gives the European Parliament the power to adopt legislation jointly with the Council of the European Union, requiring the two bodies to agree on an identical text before any proposal can become law.
